Slow Cooker Chicken Tater Tot Casserole

For years I’ve only made ground beef tater tot casserole. This week I made a tater tot casserole that is loaded with cheese and bacon.

I remember the first time I had tater tot casserole. It was at a church potluck. It was something I never had before, in fact my mom never made tater tots! Now years later I am hooked on these fun casserole recipes.

How to make Chicken Tater Tot Casserole:

  • Start with cream of chicken soup, milk, onion and seasonings.
  • Whisk together until smooth.

  1. Add half a bag of tater tots, cubed chicken and cooked bacon into the bottom of the slow cooker
  2. Pour over the soup and onion mixture.
  3. Add the remaining tots, arrange in a neat design if desired.
  4. Top with sharp cheddar cheese.

How long do I cook?

  • Place the lid on the slow cooker.
  • I find that cooking tater tot casserole in the slow cooker does best on low, so the edges don’t burn.
  • Cook on LOW for 5 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.

Can I use ground chicken or turkey?

  • Yes, ground chicken or turkey works well in this .
  • Brown, crumble and drain the ground chicken or turkey before adding to this .

Can I use a different type of condensed soup in this?

You can use just about any condensed soup (Campbell’s) in this , use two cans. The creamy style are best, don’t use brothy types like tomato or French onion.

Instructions:

  • Place half of the tater tots in the bottom of the slow cooker. Spread them out so they are an even layer.

  • Add the cubed chicken in a layer over the tots. Sprinkle over half of the bacon.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, milk, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and diced onion.

  • Pour this mixture over the tots, chicken and bacon.

  • Add remaining tots, arrange them neatly if desired.

  • Sprinkle over the cheese.

  • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.

  • When the cooking time is done add the remaining bacon and sprinkle over the green onion.
