Slow Cooker Bourbon Hot Dogs

These Slow Cooker Bourbon Hot Dogs are exactly what you need to enjoy your BBQ without heating up the whole house! The best part is that most of these ingredients can be found in your kitchen already.

I think one can not have enough appetizer recipes! I would serve these bourbon hot dogs along with another appetizer such as spinach dip or Rotel dip for a great spread at a party.

This is a great alternative to traditional hot dogs, and it’s even better with the sweet and tangy drunken sauce! No need to add condiments to this delicious crockpot dish.

Can I use beer instead of bourbon?

  • While bourbon is the perfect choice for these slow cooker hot dogs if you have beer instead, that will work fine.
  • Beer gives the hot dogs a more mild flavor that some people might even prefer. You can use any beer that you would normally drink in this in place of the bourbon.

Can I use lil smokies or sausage instead?

Sure! There are other cocktail weenie recipes out there using all sorts of different meat choices.

You may also want to use cut-up brats or kielbasa if you are looking for your finished product to have more bite than traditional hot dogs.

You can even use little smokies or frozen meatballs! Whichever you choose, they will melt in your mouth and you won’t want to miss a single drop {no pun intended} when they’re cooked with the warm, sweet sauce – yum!

How to make bourbon hot dogs

  • Beef hot dogs – (two 15-oz. packages) I use Oscar Meyer. If possible don’t skimp on the hot dogs, a good beef hot dog has MUCH more flavor than a chicken hot dog.
  • Ketchup
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Brown sugar
  • Bourbon – I use a local bourbon whiskey called Broken Top Whiskey
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Red pepper flakes

Add the wet ingredients: ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, Worcestershire sauce and red pepper flakes.

Stir until well-combined. Place the lid on the slow cooker.

How long should I cook?

  • Cook on LOW for 5 hours. Stirring occasionally.
  • Note, that 5 hours is not too long to cook these.
  • The hot dogs will soak up the bourbon and the sauce and turn darker. They will not shrivel. They only get better the longer they cook.

Does the alcohol cook out of these?
All the alcohol may not cook out of these for the slow cooker does not get to a high heat. I would not serve these to babies, children, OR anyone who does not drink alcohol for respect to them.
